A dental elevator comprises a handle (1) and a blade-like elevating edge (2) for insertion in the gap between a tooth to be extracted and an adjacent tooth. The handle (1) and the elevating edge (2) are joined by a rigid connection (3) so that manipulation of the handle (1) the elevating edge (2) applies a force to the tooth to be extracted to assist in its extraction. The connection (3) between the handle and the elevating edge (2) includes at least one bend so that the axial line of the handle (1) lies outside the plane of the elevating edge (2).
