The calibrated periodontal probe is an instrument of dental diagnostics. The rod-shaped working end is marked in millimeter units for assesment purposes. It is used to 1. determine the consistency of the gingival tissue 2. survey sulcus and pockets depths 3. measure clinical attachment levels 4. measure the width of attached gingival 5. verify whether bleeding and/or purulent exudate is present.
Ball-End Probes (PWB, PCP8B and PWHO) increases tactile sensitivity and gives a more accurate picture of gingival pocket depth. Also, it does not damage the tissue. The black coding mark is not painted, but it is absorbed into the metal. Thus the mark is permanent and lasts during the sterilization method.
